Quantum Firmware Developer - Entry

Job Description

Job Title: Entry-Level Quantum Firmware Developer. Location: Rochester, Minnesota, United States

Responsibilities:

  • Develop firmware and drivers in C, C++, and Python to control room-temperature electronics for quantum computer systems.
  • Continuously improve and innovate firmware design for evolving generations of quantum hardware.
  • Collaborate with teams across hardware, software, and research disciplines.
  • Debug firmware and hardware failures; perform root cause analysis;
  • Enhance testing infrastructure and implement automation using scripting languages and DevOps tools.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Proficient in C, C++, and Python programming.
  • Familiarity with Unix systems, GitHub, and test-driven development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Self-motivated and adaptable in a dynamic environment.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • 2+ years of experience in computing or firmware-related roles.
  • Experience with ASIC or FPGA development;
  • Hands-on lab experience with electronics hardware;
  • Understanding of IBM Quantum architecture.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools like Jenkins and YOCTO/PetaLinux development environments.
