Software Engineer (Backend) - Cloud

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Software Engineer (Backend) – Cloud Platform. Location: Remote (US) with options for onsite or hybrid in College Park, MD or Bothell, WA

This team builds the APIs, services, and integrations that connect customers and partners to IonQ’s quantum computers through AWS, GCP, Azure, and other environments; You will collaborate with product, application, systems, and research teams to deliver the best developer experience in quantum computing.

Responsibilities:

• Work closely with Infrastructure Engineering, Application Development, and Operations to deliver highly available and fault-tolerant cloud services
• Design, build, test, and deploy APIs and cloud capabilities that make quantum computing accessible to users at all skill levels
• Build, extend, and maintain IonQ’s cloud platform and developer tools;
• Participate in on-call rotations to ensure service reliability

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in collaborative environments
• Strong experience with cloud platforms and designing scalable, robust service;
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Go, JavaScript, or Python
• Experience in SDKs, libraries, and improving developer experience (DX)
• Background working in cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP, Azure, Kubernetes, serverless)
• Excellent written and oral communication and teamwork skills

Preferred:

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
• 3+ years working with Kubernetes;
• 3+ years working with SQL databases
• Experience with authentication standards (OAuth, OpenID, SAML)
• Prior experience with Google Cloud Platform

Compensation and Benefits:

• Base salary: $141,670 – $185,482 (depending on experience, skills, and location)
