Job Title: Quantum Error Correction Theorist. Location: Yorktown Heights, New York, United States

The role focuses on developing new theoretical frameworks and algorithms in quantum error correction and fault tolerant computing; The selected candidate will contribute to IBM’s long term mission of building scalable and practical quantum systems.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct theoretical research in quantum error correction
• Develop and analyze fault tolerant algorithms
• Contribute to research in quantum information theory
• Work on quantum compilation strategies;
• Publish research findings in leading scientific journals
• Collaborate with researchers across IBM Quantum and IBM Research
• Contribute to open research discussions and the broader quantum ecosystem

Qualifications:

• Doctorate degree in a relevant field
• Graduate level academic background in quantum computing or related area
• Coursework or research projects in quantum error correction, fault tolerance, or information theory
• Proven experience performing theoretical research;
• Experience with at least one general purpose programming language

Preferred:

• Strong publication record in high impact journals
• Programming experience in scientific computing languages
• Familiarity with Git or GitHub
• Experience working in collaborative research environments

Compensation will vary based on experience, skills, and location. For part time roles, pay and benefits are adjusted according to hours worked.
