Quantum Performance Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Performance Engineer. Location: Yorktown Heights, New York, United States

This is a hands-on role where you will define performance benchmarks, identify bottlenecks, and collaborate across teams to ensure IBM’s next-generation quantum platforms run smoothly at scale.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement performance testing strategies for distributed quantum software.
  • Create tools and frameworks to conduct automated performance tests.
  • Analyze test results and provide feedback to developers;
  • Work with the reliability and support teams to identify and solve common issues.
  • Collaborate with global IBM teams on quantum control, compilers, and hybrid architectures.
  • Contribute to performance optimization, observability, and benchmarking tools.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong experience in performance engineering in distributed systems;
  • Hands-on knowledge of observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry.
  • Solid understanding of OS internals, networking, I/O, concurrency;
  • Proficiency in profiling with languages such as Go, Rust, C/C++, and Python.
  • Experience working with Kubernetes, containers, and cloud infrastructure.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with benchmarking tools and energy-efficient system design.
  • Familiarity with heterogeneous environments including edge and hybrid systems.
  • Knowledge of advanced communication protocols like gRPC, QUIC, RDMA;
  • Exposure to quantum circuits, circuit optimization, and quantum algorithms.
  • Experience with Agile development, code reviews, and collaborative team environments.
  • Prior work with Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift.
