Research Scientist - Cryogenic Hardware

Job Description

Position: Senior Research Scientist – Quantum Computing, Cryogenic Hardware. Location: Pasadena, CA

Responsibilities:

• Design high-density cryogenic packaging and signal delivery systems for quantum processors.
• Develop mechanical assemblies for cryogenic signal conditioning and EMI shielding.
• Lead simulation-driven design using tools like ANSYS or COMSOL;
• Collaborate across teams to define system requirements, conduct design reviews, and deliver final assemblies.
• Support manufacturing processes and ensure mechanical designs meet production standards;
• Own technical documentation including design reports, testing protocols, and assembly guides.
• Drive innovation in cryogenic hardware scaling and thermal performance.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant industry or research experience.
• Expertise in SolidWorks and thermal/structural simulation tools (ANSYS, COMSOL).
• Proven experience in cryogenic mechanical design;
• Deep understanding of materials and design principles for cryogenic environments.
• Familiarity with RF/microwave principles, PCB manufacturing, and test methods.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver complete product lifecycle projects.

Preferred:

• PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics.
• Experience with silicon device packaging in cryogenic environments.
• Proficiency in RF/microwave testing equipment;
• Hands-on experience with dilution refrigerators.
• Background in EMI mitigation techniques and high-density mechanical design.
