Software Engineer - Product Delivery

Job Description

Job Title: Staff Software Engineer - Product Delivery. Location: College Park, Maryland, United States, Bothell, Washington, United States, Remote (with occasional travel to the office)

Responsibilities:

  • Learn the fundamental principles of IonQ's quantum products and development activities to design software that effectively enhances them.
  • Write code to run physical experiments and quantum computer operations;
  • Automate and optimize the calibration of the systems' physical parameters;
  • Collaborate closely with experimental physicists, applying scalable software engineering practices to complex problems.
  • Conduct hands-on testing of the software stack, from high-level APIs to analog signals on an oscilloscope.
  • Manage projects, priorities, deadlines, and deliverables independently;
  • Mentor junior staff and share knowledge of software engineering practices.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience as a core software developer working on applications that support critical user tasks.
  • 7+ years of experience in advancing the development of a commercial or industrial electronic hardware product or conducting fundamental research requiring complex electronic or optical systems;
  • Experience with the full life cycle of large-scale software products used for automating the operations of complicated electrical, mechanical, or optical systems.
  • A PhD in atomic, molecular, and optical physics, quantum computing, or related fields is preferred;
  • Experience with deploying mathematical optimization or machine learning in commercially or industrially relevant contexts.
  • Proficiency in Python packaging, containerization, and virtual environment administration;
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment relevant to experimental physics, such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, and power meters.
  • Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes for configuring and troubleshooting applications in containerized environments.

  • Competitive salary ranging from $162,920 to $213,304, based on experience and location;
  • Total compensation includes a bonus, equity component, and a comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, 401K matching, unlimited PTO, paid holidays, and more);
  • Work at IonQ’s headquarters in College Park, MD or Bothell, WA with the option for remote work a few days a week.
  • Opportunity for occasional travel between office sites (less than 10%).
