Staff System Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Staff System Engineer. Location: Palo Alto, California, United States

We are looking for a Staff System Engineer to join our Systems Architecture team and help translate high-level quantum system designs into modular, manufacturable engineering solutions; This is a cross-disciplinary role, ideal for candidates with deep experience in hardware systems, particularly in optical or quantum domains.

Responsibilities:

• Convert conceptual quantum system architectures into detailed, manufacturable designs.
• Break down overall system functionality into modular subsystems and define technical requirements.
• Collaborate with subsystem teams to ensure alignment and technical feasibility;
• Design with an emphasis on performance, reliability, timing, and integration complexity.
• Coordinate with validation and test teams to enable effective data acquisition and system testing.
• Review and refine design decisions through stakeholder input;
• Maintain technical documentation, including schematics and system drawings.

Qualifications:

• MS or PhD in Physics, Optical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in system-level design and project management.
• Preferred: familiarity with principles of quantum computing;
• Proven ability to work across departments and manage complex technical discussions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially in cross-functional teams.
• Hands-on problem-solving skills and a proactive engineering mindset.
