Job Description

Job Title: Staff Systems Hardware Engineer. Location: Milpitas, California, United States

PsiQuantum is on a mission to build the world's first utility-scale quantum computer. As a Staff Systems Hardware Engineer, you will contribute directly to the design, development, and validation of advanced electro-optical systems; This hands-on position plays a critical role in building scalable systems that support fault-tolerant quantum computing using photonics based architecture.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with optical system designers to define electrical system requirements and support the development of breakout boards and prototypes.
  • Lead schematic and system-level electrical design, including cabling and layout definitions.
  • Perform bring-up and debug of electronic boards and systems, including EMI suppression and signal integrity testing.
  • Utilize Python to script lab automation tools and interface with hardware through proprietary control APIs.
  • Work cross-functionally with electronics, thermal, mechanical, firmware, and optical teams to integrate and validate systems.
  • Execute validation plans and provide hands-on support during system integration and commissioning phases.

Qualifications:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or Physics.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience developing hardware for optical transceivers or RF systems.
  • Strong background in FPGA/microcontroller integration, clock/power distribution, and EMI suppression.
  • Proficient in using lab instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, VNAs, signal generators, and power supplies.
  • Experience writing Python scripts for hardware control and test automation.
  • Skilled in debugging and optimizing electro-optical systems.

Preferred:

  • Hands-on experience with electro-optics, photonics, or non-linear optics systems.
  • Familiarity with vacuum systems and cryogenic environments.
  • Experience in full hardware product lifecycle from R&D through deployment.
