Job Description
Job Title: Chief of Staff, R&D. Location: Boston, Massachusetts, United States
The role works closely with engineering leaders, executives, and cross-functional teams to align priorities and deliver critical projects on time. This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President of R&D.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership and Execution
- Partner closely with the SVP of R&D to define and execute strategic priorities
- Provide data-driven insights to support executive decision-making
- Anticipate risks and proactively identify solutions to keep initiatives on track
- Represent the SVP in internal and external meetings when needed
- Lead and support high-impact initiatives across multiple product areas
Operational Excellence
- Prepare materials for executive meetings, board presentations, and internal reviews
- Set agendas and facilitate effective leadership meetings
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency within R&D
- Track organizational goals and ensure timely delivery of key projects
Communication and Collaboration
- Ensure clear communication from the SVP to R&D teams and other departments
- Serve as a primary point of contact for stakeholders interacting with the SVP
- Coordinate with other Chiefs of Staff and functional leaders across the company
- Draft internal communications, reports, and presentations on behalf of the SVP
Qualifications:
- 10 years of experience in program management with exposure to business process engineering
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
- At least 8 years of experience in a fast-paced technology environment;
- Minimum of 3 years in a Chief of Staff, Senior Program Manager, or similar role
- Proven experience working directly with senior executives at VP level or above
- Strong ability to understand technical details and improve operational efficiency
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Comfort working with hardware engineers, software engineers, scientists, and physicists
- Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, finance, product, and go-to-market teams
- High emotional intelligence and strong relationship-building skills
- Passion for building scalable processes in a high-growth environment
Preferred:
- Exceptional leadership and people management skills
- Ability to translate complex problems into clear and actionable narratives;
- Experience working with both hardware and software teams on first-of-a-kind systems
- Knowledge of quantum computing, quantum networking, or quantum sensing technologies
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally to multiple company locations
Benefits and Compensation:
- Base salary range: $167,808 to $219,704 per year
- Total compensation includes base salary, performance bonus, and equity
- Compensation varies based on experience, skills, and market location
